As we enter the 21st century, Portugal is facing a greater challenge: to re-establish a large part of its forest heritage, inspired by the composition of the native forests.

REFORESTATION WEEKENDS 2021-22

December 6 2021

This winter, ArBOR will start the second phase of our partnership with the Pai das Donas Commonlands Governing Board, the Pai das Donas Improvements Commission, and the Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Forests (ICNF) to reforest the commonlands (baldios) of the village of Pai das Donas with native tree species.

PLANTING DAYS

We’ll plant 09:00-12:30 each day of the planting weekends and finish with an open air lunch together in Pai das Donas. Dust off your digging tools and come and join us!

We’ll meet on the dirt road between Pai das Donas and Sardal. Flags will mark the area to be planted each weekend and there’ll be someone from ArBOR to show you what to do. Drive out along that road and you’ll be sure to see us. (Approximate location.)

Dress warmly as it can be cold on the slopes at that altitude, and bring a water bottle, a bucket (to carry tree seedlings) and a suitable digging tool. Please don’t bring breaking bars or pickaxes – we’ll tell you why! A simple lunch is provided but there will be additional food and drinks you can purchase.

Please share the events to your networks!

Help us to help nature restore the native forests to these hills!
